Spring

This is what I've been working on. It's silver leaf and acrylic. My plan is that it will be 'Spring' of a four seasons series...the 'Suns' that I've been drawing recently are going to be turned into seed pods and incorporated into a similar painting (which may well end up as the official 'Spring' of the series). We shall see.

And this marks my 365th drawing. I have now done a drawing a day for an entire year! It's not been easy and sometimes it's felt like a lot of pressure but I now have a body of work that I plan to get decent scans of and sell. Not sure what I will do with this blog going forward. I think I will still post my art but I'm not going to be as strict as I have been in terms of putting something up every day...perhaps once or twice a week but that is going to have to wait till I feel better. I am rather poorly at the moment and can't face picking up a pen never mind anything else.

Anyway, Happy New Year to you and yours and thank you for following me on my drawing-a-day for a year journey!

Sun # 6 (Finished)

For some reason I can't get the camera to take a good photo of this but you can still get the jist of what I'm going for.

Am feeling absolutely dreadful today. Full blown flu...hot and cold sweats...urgh! Early night I think!

Sun # 6.1

Not feeling so great today! Think we're starting to come down with the dreaded lurgy which is a shame cause it's Tom's birthday and we've got plans! I'm sure we'll soldier on!

I think this needs something more....

Sun # 6

This is the start of sun # 6. Although it needs work I'm quite liking this one.

Tom is coming over today. Not seen him for ages so am really looking forward to it...will be the first time he's seen the new house!

Sun # 5 (Finished)

Yes, that is better! I'm really looking forward to painting these next year.
I have loads of plans for them!

I've just realised...I only have four more days and I will have completed my drawing a day for a year project! Bloody hell....

Sun # 5.4

This is better but I think the white sections need to be black...make them stand out more!

We had a fabulous Christmas. We pleased ourselves so it was totally stress free! We started the day with smoked salmon and cream cheese Bellini's which had to be consumed with some champagne to wash them down (well, it would have been rude not to!), then we had Chris's home made pea and ham soup (It is the best I've ever had!), then roast chicken with all the trimmings (again, made by Chris's fair hand) and then we had home made mini pavlovas with grilled honey plums (made by me)....and then we went for a very loooonnnng walk to try and walk some of it off!

*grins* it was lovely.

Merry Christmas :-D

This is what Chris got me for my main Christmas Present! It's by a ceramicist called Mark Smith and it's absolutely stunning...I saw it months ago and Chris took an afternoon off work and went and got it for me :-D. I do have a fabulous husband!

This is the actual present.

Merry Christmas everyone.
Hope you have a great day where ever you are and what ever you are doing!

Sun # 5.3

Urgh, I'm now wondering whether it would look better with the smaller circles!
Why do I do this to myself?

Och, who cares! It's Christmas eve and I'm all excited about tomorrow so
who cares about circles on a sun!

Sun # 5.2

That's better but I don't think it's quite there yet. Perhaps adding something round the outside edge would provide the finishing touch!

(Running around getting last minute bits and bobs for Christmas. Am actually really looking forward to spending our first Christmas in the first house we've owned!)

Sun # 5.1

Hmmm, not sure about this....not sure about this at all!

Sun # 5

This is the starting point for Sun # 5. I actually quite like it as is...
there are a lot of colour possibilities that could be worked into it!

Sun # 4

I've taken the basic shape from Sun # 3 and reversed the middle...I think I like it better like that! In saying that, I should be able to use both in the painting...

I'm going to have to fill in the white section! It will look fine in a painting but in black and white it needs something else.

Sun # 3 (Finished)

Yup, it needed something in the white space! Actually...I'm now wondering if it might look better with the black and white in the middle section swapped....

Sun # 3.1

Hmmm, it's getting there but I think the white bit needs something....

Sun # 3

I never like drawings at this stage...but it's helpful to get the rough shape and then build on it!

We had a fab time in Birmingham...ate too much and drank too much
and didn't get to bed till the wee small hours!

Sun # 2 (Finished)

I don't like this one as much as Sun # 1 but I think it will work in the paintings I have planned so I'm not too worried about it!

(We're now off to Birmingham to see friends. Have been looking forward to it all week cause I know it's going to be a good laugh!)

Sun # 2

This is the starting point for Sun # 2. Not too sure what I'll do with it yet...

Sun # 1.2

This is looking better...I'm tempted to put in another circle of circles...I'm going to have a think about it and perhaps add that tomorrow.

(There is something rather nice about drawing suns whilst its cold outside!)

Sun # 1

I want to do more painting next year as its something that I have missed doing since I started doing this drawing-a-day project. My plan (always good to have a plan) is to try and come up with some images that will be associated with me and my work...washing lines make an appearance when I'm working on my imaginative stuff but I want to have some other images at my finger tips so that when someone looks at them they will say 'Oh. That was done by Carol Burns'.

I'm going to work on my 4 seasons paintings which I have been going on about for ages (Spring was started and never finished) and I need some ideas for them...I'm thinking of working on a series of drawings that could double up as either flowers or as the inside of suns! (I figure I should make use of this time to do some of the development work). This is based on a seed pod and is my starting point!

Dragon Holding The Moon (BCD)

Well, I am knackered! It's been a lovely weekend but we stayed up too late and were up waaay too early! I was also trying to explain the concept of Karma to a 5 year old at 9am this morning prior to caffeine...not an easy task let me tell you!!

Anyhoo...since the last few days drawings have been bathroom related I decided to continue the theme. This gorgeous hand beaten metal dragon is hanging up in our bathroom above the toilet :-)

Angry Whale (BCD)

Inspired by my boat yesterday I decided to have a go at 'Angry Whale'. I bought angry whale years and years ago from a fabulous pottery in the town of Portpatrick. The pottery is still going strong and has it's own website which you can visit by clicking on The Lighthouse Pottery. I adore my angry whale so whilst I was cleaning the bathroom decided that I would do a BCD of it for todays drawing :-)

Boat (BCD)

We have a gorgeous wee handmade boat in our bathroom and since we are having friends over this weekend and I am running around like a headless chicken trying to get at least some of the cooking done I decided to do a blind contour drawing of it. I do love doing these and it's been a while!

(For those of you interested: We're having Tom Yum Goong followed by Kua Gling, Thai Green Curry then Mango Sticky Rice)

Fossil (Blind Contour Drawing)

Can you guess what I found?

(I've not done any BCD's in while so decided that it was time to do a few :-D)

Spoon # 2

That's better but I think it needs more detail! Not quite there yet....

Spoon (Blind Contour Drawing)

I'm getting fed up doing all these mind drawings so have decided to do something different. I've an idea that involves a spoon...this one is not right for it so your just going to have to wait till I get one I'm happy with!

Changing My Mind

I figured out a way to make the red work! I can change my mind :-)
