I've just done this to try and keep my mind off the fact that we have put an offer in on a house.
Am feeling a bit sick to be honest!
(and have a horrible feeling that this is going to be the start of a long process!)
Jennifer - It is amazing how much it helps! I used to shy away from drawing if I was 'not in the mood' but actually forcing myself to sit down and do it really helps improve my mood! It's been interesting learning that!
I've participated in something called "expressive art" for a long time - art for the "process" rather than the "product." Expressive arts can be for healing or fun or anything in between. I've done mandalas in times of stress and it's amazing how relaxing it is. As good as a martini, but fewer calories! :-) (But not as delicious)
Jennifer - I've heard of expressive art but have never tried doing anything along those lines. I say that but then I did the drawings about feeling silenced and about how I had been touched by the mental health discovery interview that I had done. I may have to do some googling!
I love all things arty, am interested in politics and am passionate about giving those that are not usually heard a voice. This is the place I come to reflect on my experiences in a vague attempt to make sense of it all!
You can now buy a selection of my drawings, paintings and collage at Art Is Autobiographical on Etsy

Some Terms:
Blind Contour Drawing - is a technique used to help develop communication between the hand and the eye. Contour means that you draw the outline of the item and doing it 'blind' means that you don't look at what you are drawing.I love it cause I think it captures the essence of what your drawing without you having to replicate it exactly.
Collage - is a term used to describe both the technique and final piece of art in which pieces of paper, photographs, fabric and other ephemera are arranged and stuck to a supporting surface.

No comment again! :0) Drawing through the stress is a great idea though!
